"The Engineer's Sweetheart," "The Spectre," ■ ; "The Phoenix" (introducing a sensational fire scene), and "The Sheriff's Capture" (a wild west drama) are sure to become prime favourites. Three beautifully photographed scenic pictures will be shown, viz., "In the Pyrenees," "Mount Blanc,'' and "Beautiful Amalli." The comics will include "Foolshead Knows All," "Two Sides to/a Story," "Man of Many Faces," "Next Door Neighbours," and "Mrs Barrington's House Party." . A feature of Messrs Thompson ( and Payne's entertainments is the clearness Avith which the i pictures are shown, and this is due to the knowledge possessed by the operator, Mr Harry Harrison, -in connection, with cinematography. Not only is Mr Harrison an expert photographer in moving pictures, having taken films in different parts of the world for various firms, but as an electrician and machinist having a practical knowledge of cinematography, lie has few equals in Axistralasia. It is only one possessing such qualities who can obtain the best possiWo results from the pictures. WIRTH BROS.' CIRCUS. Every seat was occupied at Messrs Wirth Bros.' circus on Saturday night, and a largo number of people were compelled to sit on the ground in front of the staging. Many additions have been made to the menagerie, and it now includes the only hippopotamus in Australasia, besides two lions, a mimber of lionesses, tigers, bears, leopards, and monkeys. The.horses were, as usual, a fine lot of animals, all in the pink of condition. A new „ item by trained horses was supplied in the dancing of a set, the lancers, which was gone right through without a mistake. The trick riding of both the male and female members of tlie company was a feature of the programme. A clever set of acrobats added greatly to, the interest of the evening. The feats of a strong girl, who bore the weight of two men, were amazing. The wild-animal tamer managed his part with remarkable confidence. *Tight-rope walking, juggling, and a number of other attractions completed a most comprehensive programme, which was thoroughly appreciated by the large audience.
