MASTERTON HIGH SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly'meeting of the Masterton District High School Committee was held in the office of the secretary (Mr W. last evening, there being presentMessrs R. Brown (chairman), T. J., Thompson, A. Hendry, C. Perry, J. L. Hughes, A. W. Chapman, and G. Townsend.
The Headmaster (Mr W. H. Jack- I son) submitted the following re- 1 port:— Attendance— Main School, I roll 608; Side School, 181; Secondary ! Classes, 62. School re-opened on the 30th nit., -with. a. very satisfactory j attendance in all departments. At the Main School 77 pupils have been ■admitted.this week, 27 of the. number being promotions from the Side School, and 59 ; have left.. r Of the latter a .large number have, obtained employment, and the remainder have left the district. At the Side School 20 new pupils have been admitted, and 16 have left through removal | from the town.' In the Secondary ] Department there have been six admissions from other school districts —two from Lansdowne and one each from Te Wharau, i.aterfalls, Timii, and Rongomai, and 26 of our own Proficiency. Certificate pupils have entered as secondary scholars. Of the number on the secondary at "the end of last year 22 have left. The total roll in all three departments at the end of last year was 852. The total roll to-day is 831. Staff,— Two of the "pupil-teachers have gained admission to the Training College—Misses R. Wilton and M. Hare. The vacancies have been filled by the appointment of Miss Vera Hunter and Mr David Pryor, both of whom have passed the Matriculation . Examination, and Junior Civil Service Examination, at this school. The treasurer reported a credit balance at last meeting of £57 4s 7d; receipts since, £2 10s; expenditure, £24 lis 2d; balance at date,, £BS 3s sd. Accounts amounting to £ls 18s were submitted and passed for payment. Messrs Heyhqe, Perry, and Hughes were appointed a visiting committee for the month.
