HALF-HOLIDAYS.
Under the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, passed last session, it is permissible for the vqccupier ,of a hotel 0£ restaurant to mutually arrange with his assistants to -accumulate the weekly' half-holidays so that days shall be allowed in every three months. This is an important principle to establish, and it is open to question whether it should notJbe applied to misinesses other than those of hotelkeepers and restaurants. There are many employees, no doubt, who would prefer a week'is holiday on full pay every three months to a halt-holiday every week. Why should these not be permitted to mutually arrange with their employers in the same way as do the hotel and restaurant assistants?
