FIRES AT SEA.
MAIL STEAMER DAMAGED. (Received February 2, 9.30 a.m.) PERTH, February 2. A fire, the cause of which is un known, broke out on board the Geiv man mail steamer' Barbarossa two days before she reached Fremantle. . A quantity of Australian cargo was damaged by fire/and water. The outbreak was not subdued until several plates had been buckled. PARISIANA ENQUIRY. (Received February 2, 9.4.0 a.m.) PERTH, Februtry 2. The harbourmaster at Fremantle conducted a preliminary enquiry into the"loss of'the Parisiaria, which ~ was burnt in December last in the Indian Ocean. He found that no blame was attachable to the captain, officers, or crew. On the other hand, their efforts to extinguish the fire were commended.
The Colonial Secretary has approved the finding, and no further action in the matter will be taken.
