TURF NOTES. ' (By "Zetland.") The Pahiatua meeting opens today, and judging by the numerous acceptances should be a decided Suecos's from a racing point'of view. Tlie Hack Hurdles will draw a good field. Recent winning form is best represented by Millenial, Merry Lawn, Gaptain, Waikaraka, and Canadian. A nice even lot of about ten will line up to the barrier for the Pahiatua Cup. There will be plenty of backers for Highden, Ariom, Waiwareware, San Lass and Passive. Quality is fairly well represented in the Trial Hack, of six furlongs. ' The Konini Welter is sure to be a well fought out race, as there are several very capable weight carriers engaged. Master Jack, a winner at Takapuna this week, is a full brother to Aim'well. The latter, who has proved a disappointment on the flat this season, is to be schooled over hurdles. In this department his lack of size will be against him. The Masterton horses engaged at Pahiatua to-day are First ConsuJ = Sunbonnet, Vite, Zealand, Lochiela, Aberration, Gunboat, Afterthought, (Continued on Page 7.)
and Epsom Downs. They are all in good racing condition, and should run prominently during the meeting. The Tauherenikau trained Jolly Maiden will be a starter in the Trial Hack at Pahiatua to-day- Foreshot, winner of a Welter at the Wairarapa meeting, and who has been protested' against in connection with that win, is also among the entrants.
