SUBSTANTIAL. PROFITS

(Received this morning, 1.9 o'clock.)

SYDNEY, January 30

At the half yearly meeting of the Gas Company, the profit was shown at £69,366. A dividend of nine shillings per share was declared. !

The Chairman said he was at a ; loss to understandthe recent attack on the Company. It was absurd, to say they could supply gas here as cheaply as in England. Labour and machinery were so much dearer. They made a reduction on the Ist inst. When the extensions at the;works were in working order the prico would again come under consideration.
