Bates' -summary and weather forecast are as follows: — Strong south-easterly winds have prevailed, but moderated to-day. Rain has spread over the North Island, but the weather has improved in the South. The barometer-j& ; lower in the North, and though still , high in the South has shown a slight : fall, which, has weakened' the gradient s., • Present indications are for a brie fepel'. lof i'ai/ weather, with a heavy shower following in many parts, and the weather clearing up | afterwards for a day or two. The winds will probably freshen again from the southward, and after a temporary fall in the barometer will probably rise everywhere.
