SIR CHARLES DILKE.
The death of Sir Charles Dilke, which was announced by cable yesterday, removes from the sphere of politics a figure which has been prominent in Radical circles for some years. The late Sir Charles Dilke was a lawyer by profession, and a red-hot Republican -by conviction. In 1880 he was Under-Secretary for foreign Affairs in the Gladstone Ministry, and .11 1882 was President of the Local Government Board. He had travelled widely, and -was possessed of a shrewd, keen intellect. Woman was his, downfall in politics," and he never seemed to recover from the scandals of a divorce case in which he was involved a fevy years back.
