THE REFERENDA

VIEWS OF STATE MINISTERS MR HOLMAN EXPLAINS. '(Received January 26, 9.35 a.m.) SYDNEY, January 26. Mr W. A. Hoi man, New South "Wales Attorney-General, states that a wrong construction has been placed on his statement in regard to the Federal referendum". He is quite in accord with the Federal Government, as far as the referendum related to effective arbitration, the new protection, and nationalisation of monopolies. These were planks in the Labour plntform. So far as the proposal went beyond these planks, he declared, he was opposed to them, and would advocate their rejection. Mr J. Yerran, Premier of South Australia, who is now visiting Sydney, states that he and his colleogues are entirely in favour of the referendum proposals, as they will enableLabour Governments to evade the obstructive tactics of nominee Legisla tive Councils.
