Lyon, one of Wei- | ling ton's best-known citizens, met j his death in a tragie manner this ■afternoon.: He hadybcen attending the races ' at; TrenthamV? and ■ c6urse to-return to the city by an early train. 1 Mr Lyon was crossing the lino to reach the platform on the other side, and being short-sighted, did not notice a train approaching. Ho was struck by the incoming train, and practically cut to pieces. His body was only recovered by raising the carriages by the use of jacks. '. It was then, fpund to be horribly •: mutilated, showing that death must have been instantaneous., [The late Mr Horatio M. Lyon was sixty years of age, being born in Wellington in 1851. He was a son of the late Mr William Lyon, the founder of the firm of Lyon and Blair, and was for some years in partnership with Mr Blair. He became secretary of the Wellington Racing Club in 1879, but resigned in 1880, when he was appointed secretary of the Wellington Harbour Board. This position he occupied for five years, during which period he was a steward of the Racing Club. In 1885 he again became secretary of the Racing Club, and held this position until a few years back, when he resigned and became secretary of the Underwriters' Association. For several years past he had been in indifferent health. "Horry" Lyon was a well-known and popular figure in Wellington, and it was a tragic circumstance that he should have met his death when attending the meeting of a club with which he was so long identified.]
