WHAKATAKI GUN CLUB.
CLAY PIGEON MATCH. The first gathering of the Whakataki Gun .Club was held on Satur- ' day, January 21sfc. The weather was fine, but, according to shooting men, the wind was very tricky. There was a fair attendance, the shooters, besides the local men> was Mr R. Hughes, from Pahiatua, The first event, a sweepstake, was won by Mr R. Harvey, with 4 bi-yV out' of 8. Mr Hughes 'came r-rr- : ■>■ ' with 3 birds out of 8. The second event was for a gold medal present-, ed by Mr J. H. Barty, for Avhich ; there were eight competitors. Considerable interest was taken in this 1 match, the 1 winner being Mr R. Harvey, with 7 kills out of 8. This ".was exceptionally good, when the rough wind is taken into consideration. Mr A. P. Potter came a' good second with 6 kills, out of 8. The third and' last event brought out six com'petitors. Messrs - Willie Mason and R. Hughes tied three times, and' on shooting off Mr Mason won by one kill. The club is now in full swing;, and is affiliated with the -Now Zealand Gun Club. Mr W. Mason, of Whakataki, is secretary pro tem., and to him all communications can •be addressed. The next meeting will be on Febranry 11th, a scratch match for members only,
