LAWN TENNIS TOURNAMENT.

CONCLUDING DAY. The Tennis Tournament was continued again yesterday in excellent weath-sr, and before an attendance that eclipsed that of the previous day considerably. The finals were .keenly watched,'and the successful strokes of those participating were loudly applauded. The event in which the most interest was evinced was the final for the Men's Champion Doubles when C C. Cox and G .G. Aitken beat Parker and Brown in a hard fought out three-set contest. I In this nfcvteh Brown was undoubtedly off colour, and did nothing to help Parker, who was tired, having played several rather hard games during the afternoon, while on the other hand the opposing pair worked amicably together, and were a better balanced , pafi-. Cox's network and Aitken's j volleying and serving '. were particularly good. Ollivier, of Christchurch, met the veteran Parker in the Men's Championship Singles, and a good.'■ contest was anticipated, but in this the spectators were disappointed, Parker easily holding his own, winning 6—-2, 6—l. Ollivier followed* too close up to the net after his, service, and was easily beaten, by Parker, the latter .passing Ollivier at the- net with almost' monot'o'nousv'i'agula ri ty, ' Olji vier' s.: main fault I seem s. to be his; service; : he putting'•' too much, action into it, to the' detriment" of the pace and placfiig "of the ball In the early stages'of the finalfor the Ladies' Championship Doubles, Misses Wellwood and Travers;seemed to 'be going to have an easy win, leading 3—o. On Miss Simpson's .service, her side won their first game, and gradually pulled up equal to their opponents. The score was again evened at 5 : all, and Miss Well wood led on the- next game by 5—4. The Wellington pair won the tenth game, and did likewise with the next two succeeding games, the first set ending 7—£. Misses Nun- ( nelley and Simpson -led'2—o in the I second set, but 'their.opponents won the next three, only to lose the last three" games of the set* by easy margins. The win-was very popular, the players receiving, an ovation on finishing.' Miss. Simpson played much better than on the day before, and -seemed A to have gained much mors confidence. -, Misses Nunrielley and Travers i again met in the. Ladies' (Singles Championship, and-again the « skilland power of the veteran prevailed, she winning. 6—l, 6—l. v . ; 'Mis> Nunnelley owes her victory to" her'accurate driving and to .her placing, < completely tiring her opponent down. The., Men's' Handicap Doubles was won by Kean and Lawrence, of, Wellington, by beaming Ollivier and Goss, the Christchurch pair, 70— 60. The'wiinners .-..inried off with a handicap of fifty, I.ut this was too. I much for the Southerners, they -scoring'.'..eighty-five- points to the Thorndon pair's forty-five. This, win in common with all the others during the flay, was most r popnlar. ';..'..
