THE CEMETERY.
The cemetery is always a "grave" subject with which to deal. But it, is a subject in wlupji everybody, more or? less, is interestecl. Therefore it camiot be avoided. The Masterton Cemetery is located in a wrong position. It. is too close to the residential portion of the town, and its proximity to the Public Park- makes it an undesirable burying-place. The sight of grief-stricken mournWs consigning their loved ones to the earth in the sacred reserve, w-hilst in the adjoining park men, women and children are", engaging in : various forms; of sport,. to the.tune, of the "Devil's March;",or some other breezy air by a brass band, is not wholesome or invigorating to the senses.; It is;.in fact, a disgrace to the community that such a state of things should exist. The Cemetery Trustees and the Borough Council should take immediate steps to provide another reserve, and the existing cemetery should be closed to all excepting those -who hav® plots.
