IMPERIALISM.
At least one member of the New' Zealand Legislature—Mr A. ;S. Mal-colm-7-is endeavouring to educate .the people on Imperial questions. What is the relation of New Zealand to the Motherland? Why is the Dominion contributing to the Imperial Navy and spending large sums upon defence? How does the fiscal policy of Britain affect the Colonies? .To what extent do ..the,, maritime laws of the overi'selfs* dominions' synchronise? What voice, if any, should the people of the colonies have in the • greater Imperial questions? These which present themselves* at a,, moment's reflection.] Thoj" are all important, highly' 1 important to the citizens.of this State. And yet there is not one in a hundred who stops t©> think of the larger questions of Empire. The parish pump has too great a hold on this community. A wider outlook is wanted, and, if Mr Malcolm can produce it, he will be rendering conspicuous service to the Dominion.
