DISTRICT NEWS.

(From Our (J-. u Correspondents.) HUKANUI. Mr Billingtou, who is in charge at the Balance Dairy Company's Hukanui creamery, reports an early falling off of the 'Supply of milk, the flush falling about a" month earlier than in previous years. This is probably accounted for by the grass ripening and seeding quickly. At present about 3500 gallons are received, Mr Dougherty being the largest sup- : ,plier. Cheques ranging from £5 to £129 were paid out as monthly payments to suppliers yesterday, making a total of about £I4OO. Dr Jamieson Was called by telephono to attend Mr W. Stoodley, an employee of Mr A. V. TJdy, who was suffering from rupture. Dr Jamieson had him removed to the Pahiatua Hospital. Mr A .V. TJdy, sawmiller, who \\ns had a tennis court laid down at his residence, foi'-mally opened the season to-day, a tournament being arranged amongst the- invited guests. Mr R. C. Leach, manager for the Trustees of Messrs Cox and Murrell, has been indisposed for over a week, but I am pleased to say the. genial "Jock" is again at his post. Our school committee are not dead. They are arranging for a flag pole ,to be erected in the school grounds. Possibly by ' Coronation time ■. the school children will be able to salute the flag. ■ " •'

PAHIATUA. The secretary of the PahiatuaAkitio Agricultural and Pastoral Association (Mr J. A. Walsh) accompanied.by Mi- E. S. Holdaway, made a vigorous canvass of the Ballance district yesterday for entries and new members for thi? forthcoming show, and were very successful. As a. result of their efforts the Association will be strengthened l by the following batch of new members, which, taking into consideration that the Association had already a fair number of Ballance supporters, must be considered very gratifying:— Messrs J. A. Sinclair, H. J. Hutchings, James Harris, C Marriott, T. R. Dodson, C. P. Jensen,. F. Cresswell, W. J. Foter, and J. Stobie. The secretary informs me that entries are coming in very freely, and everything at present would .seem to indicate that the show to be held' on February 10th will easily eclipse the initial gathering.' A feature in connection with this year's fixture is the ..large number of applications that are being received for side-show-space. Intending exhibitors are reminded that entries close on the 2oth inst. The following team of Pahiatua bowlers—Messrs J. W. Mills, 'T. Hewat, J. Av Walsh, and . W. H. Hawkins— has challenged the holders of the Dixon Cup and Tasker gold badges, Terrace End. The match will be played at Terrace End to-morrow (Wednesday).
