DISTRICT NEWS.

(From Our 0~;a Correspondents.) KAIPARORO. Haymaking in this district is just about completed, most of the farmers being fortunate enough to condude harvesting operations before Friday's wet spell set in. On Friday and Saturday the weather was quite cold enough to make big fires appreciated, but for the past two clays summer heat is once more with us, though the nights are still decidedly chilly. On Saturday evening last the bandsmen and other settlers tendered a farewell social to Mr and Mrs Ras Hansen, who are leaving the district and intend making their future home in Auckland. Mr and Mrs Hansen are both deservedly popular, and they will be very much missed in musical circles, as' they were always to the fore in helping in local concerts, etc. Mr Hansen has for some time conducted the Kaiparoro Band, and it is largely owing to his efforts that the band lias reached its present state of efficiency. N During the evening Mr Hansen was presented with a purse of sovereigns. CARTERTON The death occurred on Sunday afternoon of Mrs Flora Ashton, wife of Mr A. J. Ashton, of this district.
