MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A. meeting of the General Committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association was held in the Association's offices on Saturday afternoon last, their being present: Messrs W. Perry, W. Cooper, Q. Donald, J. Strang, A. J. Percy, H. A. Matthews, G. C. Sutraaerell. D. McGregor, junr., It. Gray, J. P. Perry, J. M. James, A. G. Pilrner, G. H. Shaw, H. J. Dagg, R. Dagg, J. B. Perry, W. H. Buick, E. Harper, H. Morrison, J. C. McKillop, W. J. Welch, B. Rayner, T. P. Lett, D. Casolberg, 0. C. Cooper, R. Smith, G. E. Allen, and C. F. Vallance. . • SHOW DATES. A letter was read from the secretary of the Pahiatua-Akitio Association, * suggesting that a conference of- associations holding shows in the autumn be held at an early date, with a view to arranging dates for shows, to avoid clashing. Several members expressed the opinion that such a conference was unnecessary, so far as Masterton was concerned. 1 On the motion of Mr D. McGregor, junr., it was decided to inform tlie Pahiatua Association that the dates of this Association having been ; arranged, the Committee sees no necessity for a conference. A VALUED MEMBER, A letter was read from Mr J. D. Cruickshank, tendering his rtesignation as a member of the Commiftec, in consequence of his approaching departure from the district. He had, he said, always taken a keen interest in the affairs of the Association, and wished it every success. ; The chairman suggested, that, the • resignation 'be"held over for, a time.Several members expressed warm' appreciation of the services rendered to the Association by Mr Cruickshank. . ■Mr H. J. Dagg suggested that some steps be taken to suitably recognise the services of the departing member. The President agreed that Mr Cruiehshank had been one of the most valued members or the Committee. It was eventually decided, on the motion of the chairman, that the resignation be held over to the end of the year. VARIOUS COMMITTEES. The reports of the meetings of the Horse, Advertising and • other committees were read. The Advertising Committee recommended the holding of a picnic on the new showgrounds prior to the show, with a view to advertising the beauties of the now ground. v \ « The proposal to hold a picnic was approved by the General Committee, and the necessary arrangements were made accordingly. FINANCE. -The report of the meeting of the Finance Committee, at which Mr J. B. Moodie presided, was also read. Accounts amounting to £B2B Gs 8d were recomended for payment. The receipts for the. month had amounted to £73 3s. The debit balance at date was,shown to be. £4218 10s 3d. The. Ground Committee was authorised to have the grandstand floor concreted, at a cost not exceeding £l2O. GROUND COMMITTEE. The reoort of the meeting of the Ground Committee, held in the morning, was read. At this meeting Mr W. J. Welch had occupied the chair. A letter was read from the clerk of the County Council, granting permission to construct a water-race across | 'Railway Itoad," for the purpose of supplying water to the Sohvay property. The 'matter of procuring flags was left in the hands of the Building Committee. The Building Committee were empowered to have the floor in tho grandstand laid down in eonrrote or -asphalt. The chairman reported
that .suitable horse stalls were being ; erected for members' horses. Ar- j rangements were also being made to allow of non-members' horses and I vehicles being put up at the sale- J yards adjoining the ground. The chairman reported tliat > the grandstand would be out of hand in the course of a few days. The railway siding was well advanced, and the 1 Railway Department had no doubt it would be completed before the show. A suggestion was made that a bicycle stand be provided on the ground. On the motion of Mr H. Morrison, , the Building Committee* was authorised to provide a bicycle stand. GRANDSTAND. I Mr W. J. Welch, chairman of the : Ground Committee, reported that the cost of the grandstand, when completed, would be £2434. The amount allocated for 1 the purpose had been £2600, and the committee had suggested concreting the floor of the stand. There was also a quantity of " material on hand. I Mr 0. C. Cooper stated that, when J everything on the ground was com- | pie ted, the overdraft would be Only i £5400. The Building Committee was working well within its means, and I everything was proceeding satisfac- 1 torily. BAND ROTUNDA. The Building .Committee was authorv ised to construct a band rotunda on the ground, it being reported that the Municipal Band had offered to dpvote its fee for playing for the day to the cost of the work. PICNIC. . _ A committee consisting of Messrs Lett, -Grajv McKillop. .and. J. H. Pauling, with power to, add. to • their • number, was set up to arrange for the picnic to be held on the Solway grounds on Thursday next. STEWARDS. The following special stewards were appointed for the show Stock receiving stewards, Messrs W. 1). Watson and W. Cooper ; gate steward, Mr W. J? Welch; parade marshal, Mr A. G. Pilmer.
