SWIMMING.
THE CHAMPIONS BEATEN. (Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) SYDNEY, January 15. Tremendous interest was displayed in the Swimming Carnival yesterday. The attendance numbered seven thousand, and quite as; many were -turned away. "The; Hundred! Yards Championship wasa' -great x-ace, .the - first -three' finishing almost together. Graham, of Qeenslaund, who was the other starter, was only a yard behind. There were five starters in the Three-quarter .Mile Championship. The spectators predicted a race between Healy and Beanrepairo, but Longworth led from the first lap, and steadily forged ahead. Healey and Beaurepaire raced together for eleven hundred yards, and both spurted for the remainder of the journey. Longworth, however, won by twenty yards. Healey was threo yards ahead of Beaurepaire. The. time was- six seconds better than Healey's record, and twenty-tw j m- onds better than Beaurepaire's fastest. Hardwick and Springfield finished, but were a considerable distance behind. Longworth used the "crawl leg" action, and the triulgeon arm movement. I
