'Auckland will he happy. The Canadian Government, after, vainly endeavouring to induce the Commonwealth to agree to New Zealand being made a port of call in the Vancouver mail service, has decided, to enter into a five years' contract with the Union Company for-a service between Canada and New Zealand. The Commonwealth will naturally be indignant, and more will doubtless be heard of the matter.' In the meantime,, New Zealand—which means Auckland, of course—has scored heavily.
