(From Our U~. <*. Correspondents.) CARTERTON Houses in Carterton must lie hard to let. There are several unoccu- ' pied, and a largo lettered sign in one indicates that it is available at 6s per week. It is stated that - this building used to fetch in 9s a week, without drainage, and now that it has this convenience it is strange that it cannot find a tenant. The members of the Carterton bowling teams, who competed at the North Island championship tournament, are expected home on Tuesday . After a spell of dry weather, a splendid rain set in yesterday. It will do a great deal of good, although several had not completed their harvesting operations. Mr F. Sunkel, of the Poverty Bay district, is on a visit to his parents at Carterton. Mr R. Harman, one of Carterton's esteemed settlers, is at present laid up with an attack of influenza. Mr and Mrs R. Franks returned to Carterton from their honeymoon tour on Thursday. Mr Jas Ward, Government Audit Inspector, is at present visiting the Wairarapa. A meeting of the members of the Past Grand Lodge of Oddfellows is to -be -held at Martinborougli on January 19th'. - The donation.list of the Carterton Public Swimming Bath fund now totals £l5O 15s 3d, which, with the Borough Council subsidy of £IOO, brings the total up to £250 los 3d. It is hoped yet- to raise a further £2O.
