AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
PROVINCIAL CHAMPION MEETING.
An attractive afternoon's sport is being provided by the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association for next Saturday, when the provincial championships will be decided at the Basin Reserve, the first event being set down for 2.15 p.m. In addition to thirteen championships there will be seven handicap events, and the entries received are said to constitute a record for a provincial championship meeting. The presence Opie, the Canterbury champion, in the sprints, is sure to give additional interest to these events, meeting of J. F. Wilson and L. E. Baxter in the half-mile championship promises to be a great "go." Wilson expects; to break two min-utes-if tlie weather conditions are favourable, and judging by recent form Baxter, who' seems to improve with every race, will not be far away from him.
