TRAGEDY IN WELLINGTON.
RAILWAY GUARD SUICIDES. | i LEAVES A LETTER FOR HIS ■ WIFE. By Telegraph — Frets Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Bolton Street Cemetery was the scene of a sensational tragedy this afternoon. v About' half-past three o'clock two lady visitors to the cemetery receiv- j ed a shock by observing a man lying ' on a bank in a prominent portion of tlie grounds, with blood flowing ' freely from a wound iii his head. Information was given to a passerby, which enabled the police to appear quickly on the spot. An investigation by Constable Snow disclosed the body of a man |ully dresses]. Near his right hand lay a loaded seven-chambered revolver, one chamber of which had been discharged. He was quite dead. There was a bu 1 et wound in thereof of his mouth. i A pendant attached to tho deceased's watch and chain bore the . following inscription : ' 'R. Styles, Hawera, A.S.R.S., v New Zealand,'" Feb., 1907?', The initials stand for "Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants." There was a letter addressed "To my wife, Maggie Styles, Guildford Terrace." The deceased -was a guard on the Wellington-Auckland express section of railway. He was between forty and fifty years of age, married, with one child. The body was removed to the morgue, where it awaits an inquest to-morrow. It was subsequently identified by railway employees as that of Mr Robert T. Styles/ a wellknown guard. No cause has so far been assigned for the deed.
