EXPORT OF APPLES.

LETTER FROM THE MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE.

Messrs E. Buxton unci Co., Limited, of Nelson, have received the subjoined letter from the Minister of Agriculture regarding the export of apples:— '"Sirs, — Reverting to previous correspondence, .. have now the honour to iiiform you that it has been deeided that the. Government will guaiantee exporters of apples from New Zealand to Europe against loss on the following conditions : "1. The varieties of apples shall be Ribstone rippin, Cox's Orange Pippin, Alexander, Wellington Pippin, Scarlet Nonpariel, New Yoik Pippin, Monroe's Favounte, Cleopatra, Jonathan, Rymer, Alfriston, Adams' Permain, Esopus Spitzenburg, French Crab, Sturmer, and other varieties approved by the Department's inspector. "2. They shall be packed and graded to the satisfaction of the inspector. "3. They shall be exported in Tasmanian or Peacock cases. "4. They shall be shipped in cold storage. "5. Exporters shall make their own arrangements for shipment toand sale'in Europe. "6. Tho High Commissioner's officers shall be given facilities for inspecting and reporting on the fruit after arrival, and on the sale hereof. "7. The amount guaranteed to each grower shall be the net return of one penny per pound on the-fruit, forming his part of the .shipment. "8. The total amount guananteed by the Government shall, however, not exceed £315 (being the amount claimed in respect of last year's shipment), and if that sum does not yield one penny per lb to each grower, it will be distributed pro rata according to the amount that would be dufe to each grower, had the- basis "been one penny per lb without the total amount being limited. "9. In calculating the amount to ..be deducted for expenses ,New Zea-'' , land freights and wharf < charges, also, cost of wrapping paper shall be taken into consideraion, but the cost of the case and the labour employed in packing shall not be taken into account.'"
