WAINGAWA FREEZING WORKS.

THE F-iRST SHIPMENT. The first shipment of carcases from the Waingawa Meat Freezing Works was made on Saturday morning last.- jfunctual to /the time arranged with the Railway' Department, eight of the new large-sized insulated cars were shunted on to. the-siding : ;at : loading, the temperature -V in "the store was reduced ta.B degrees above zero. The work of loading commenced at seven o'clock on Friday morning, a special gang of men being employed under the works manager (Mr Hausmann). The- loading ,was completed, from a single port, and' the trucks oh the line by twelve o'clock, the last truck, containing over 800 carcases Of lamb, \bteijfegloaded in thirty-fil&. minutes/ ■ -Tp? special train to Wellington was compahied by the wft'rks mptiager, and arrived at the .steamer's side at 6.30 a.m. The work of transhipping commenced at. 8 o'clock,,. r in the presence of a gentlemen interested in the meat trade, and of Captain Bone, the Marine Superintendent ,of the N.Z. Shipping Company, who inspected the meat and passed it as in excellent order. The .wliple of the .carcases were conveyed to "the, hold-without'the slightest injury:or deterioration, and their excellent, condition' wAs commented , upon by the experts and engineers of the ship. The consignment of: nearly 4000 sheep and lambs were, inthe refrigerating chamber before noon. The whole of. the arrangements as to time were carried out with remarkable precision,, to the apparent surprise of many. A thermometer was placed in the. insulated trucks to test the temperature, and it was found,that a temperature of 12 degrees above zero was registered on arrival at Wellington. The last argument against the'Waingawa works, i.e., the danger of deterioration in transit to the ship's side, has thus been removed. A further consignment of about 2000 carcases will be despatched to-morrow mornings ,
