CUSTOMS TARIFFS.
MR FOWLDS INTERVIEWED. THE QUESTION OF WINES. (Received This Morning, 1.5 o'clock.) MELBOURNE, January 6. The Minister for Customs interviewed the Hon. Geo. Fowlds regarding the Customs v administration as between the two countries, also regarding reciprocal trade. He drew special attention'to complaints by some Federal members last -session that the treaty between South Afnca and New Zealand was giving a decided preference to South African wines. The imports from Australia had fallen'during the last three fears from' sixty-six thousand gallons to fifty-one thousand, while the imports from South Africa had increased from practically nil to seventeen thousand gallons. Mr Fowlds promised that the matters would have his consideration later. . ~
