WAIRARAPA DEFEATS NELSON. • . BY FIVE WICKETS. The cricket match Nelson v. "Wairarapa was continued on the Park Oval yesterday, the victory going to Wairarapa by five .wickets. The scores ,and "details of the play are as follows: : Wairarapa, wi fch : three wickets- down for 235, continued their overnight in- i nings, Smart (51) and Logan'(l), the not out men, going to the wickets. Smart added four more rims to his score, 1 when he succumbed to a good ball from. Fairey.—26s—4—ss. Waters filled the vacancy. The score mounted to 265, when Logan hit Fairey high' to leg, Louisson accepting a good catch.—2os5 —12. Beard joined Waters.- By hard hitting by the latter, 280 was hoisted, when Clarke replaced Fairey with the balk When the score was five off thethird century, Louisson replaced Allcott. . Four more runs were added, when Louisson beat Waters.—299—6 Beard hit up the third century after about three hours play. Louisson partnered Richmond. \ Congdon took the ball from Waters, | but Beard dropped an easy catch from Richmond off his second delivery. J Congdon was given two overs and then replaced by Beechey. After an hour's play 64 appeared on the board. At 72 Louisson was caught in the slips off | Beechey, after compiling 22 in good 1 style.—72 —5—22. Cooke was the next man in. Eleven more runs were added, when. AVaters replaced Logan, and a couple of overs later Waugh went on at BeecheyV end, Cooke being dropped by Waters off his first ball. At the luncheon adjournment the score stood at 101. On resuming Waugh took the ball, but when the score stood at 119, Logan relieved him, and Phelps replaced Waters a few overs later. The score mounted slowly to 131, when Beechey was again tried. Off his second ball Waters caught Cooke at mid-on. The retiring batsman and Richman played an excellent partnership, putting on 61 runs.-~133—6—31. Max was the next man in.
