Mr Arch. Hoxsey, who was killed,at. New Orleans la-st week through his ' machine overturning, was one of the most famous of American airmen. It was only a fortnight ago- that he established a .new'world's altitude record- at Los Angeles, when he climbed the clouds to a height of 11,474ft—2-miles 304"yards 1 feetbeating the previous best, put up a few days before at Pau by Legagneux, by.729ft. On descending on that occasion Eoxsey, who made the ascent in the'face of a gale raging at 40 miles an hour, was accorded an ovation by a crowd of 80,000.
