WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Rev. D. 0. Bates' summary and forecast are as follow.—" -'" A westerly area of low pressure passed over the South Island an Monday with strong westerly winds changing to southerly. ' Considerable rain fell on the West Coast of the South Island, and .showery and changeable weather has been experienced generally. Heavy showers have occurred to-day in many parts. Present indications are for modern ate to strong westerly winds veering to southerly everywhere soon* The barometer .will .probably, rise slowly everywhere, with unsettled weather in parts, but improving generally in a short time.
