* NELSON v. WAIRARAPA. FIRST DAY'S PLAY. Tho Nelson and Wairaiapa olevens commenced a match on the Masterton Park Chal yesterday, and when play closed for the day Nelson had made 146 in their first innings, and Wairarapa had three wickets down for, 235. The game will he continued today at 10 a.m. The details of the play and scores are as follow s: — Richmond won the toss for Nelson, and elected to bat, sending Meade and Knapp to the i wickets to face T. Hoar and Logan. The score slowly mounted to 7, when Knapp hit up one from Logan, Congdon accepting the chance. —71 —5. Neale was the next man in, and after putting together I was smartly r caught behind the wickets by Moor'house, off Hoar.—lß—2—l.
Twenty-niuo appeared slowly, and Congdon then replaced Hoar. Both batsmen played careful!}, Mcada doing most of the scoiing. A"c_4§ Waters • relieved Logan. A couple of i runs later T. Beeehey, and Waugh went' to-, the wickets at the commencement of ' Wairarapa's innings. Beeehey compiled his runs in a faultless manner, not one chance being snven. —l9O-^2—112. Moorhouse was the next man in. Scoring slowed down for a time, and ■ the second century appeared on the board after about two hours' play. Sixteen more runs, were added, when Allcott beat Moorhouse.—2l6—3—lo. Logan joined Smart. Several changes wore tried, but the score slowly mounted up. Play was stopped sharth after five o'clock on account of the heavy rain, the scoie reading 233 for 3 wickets.
