PAINFUL ACCIDENT.

TO A TELEGRAPH LINESMAN

A very painful accident occured in 1 the yard of the Masterton Post Offic6 } yesterday afternoon. A married man } named J. White, residing in Cock- ■ burn Street, and employed, as a telegraph linesman, was trimming telegraph posts, when the axe slipped and severed one of the toes of his, right foot and badly gashed the foot. Medical aid was sent for, and the injured man was attended by Dr. A. Hosking, ( and conveyed to his home, where he is progressing satisfactorily.
