' • A Maori named Jack Ashby pleaded guilty in the Helensville Court to-day to cruelly 'ill-treating a valuable young cattle dog by. picking it up, swinging it round his head, and dashing it to the ground, causing its legs to be broken and its hip severely crushed. The. dog was a valuable one, £lO having been refused for it by its , owner. The accused expressed regret, but said that the dog had been worrying his horses. He was fined £5 and costs, or fourteen days' imprisonment.
