The weather was very line for the / first day of tho Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting, and, owing to the completeness of tho holiday observance, the attendance constituted a record. In addition to the betting done with tho bookmakers, £29,5-12 10s was put through the totalisator, an increase of £3920 10s over last year's figures. Every race showed a substantial increase, and the total was a record for the course, if not for Zeland. There were 49 bookmakers at £2O 10s each, against 55 last year. Manapouri soon took charge, and held a lead of three lengths over Sedition and Waimangu. At the bend Ivopu fell and brought down Bridge, and Paisano lost his rider in the scrimmage.
