WAIRARAPA AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB.
SPORTS ON PARK OVAL.
The sports meeting conducted on the Park Oval, Masterton, by the AVairarapa Amateur Athletic Club, yesterday, was one of the most successful of its iv.nd that the Masterton sports-going public had ever attended. The weather at tho commencement of the programme looked threatening, but as the afternoon wore on excellent conditions prevailed. The ground was in very good order, and good times were put up in the various foot events. The two cups for the mile and halt-mile respectively were won by L. Baxter and C. J. Core, both of Wellington. R. Messenger was the most successful local pedestrian, winning the 220 yds and -140 yds events, and coming third in the 100 yds, while .T. H. Berry, of the Masterton Club, also did well, winning the 10.0 yds and running a good second to H. R. Robertson, of Wellington, in the 75yds dash. The feature of the afternoon's amusement was the brilliant performance of the young Wellington runner, L. Baxter, who did the two mile off scratch in lOmin. o 1-ssec. 6 4-osecs. faster than standard time. On a whole tho performances were very good, and the Club are to ue congratulated on the successful results that have crowned their venture. Following wero the results : —.
