Mrs and Miss Seddon leave on a trip to the Old Country to-morrow.

Commander Orme Webb,'R.N., :' brother of Colonel Webb, is at present on a visit to Nelson.

The member for Masterton, with Mrs Hogg, have been spending :i few days in the Forty-Mile Bush.

Dr. Henry, with Mr and Mrs Potts, is at present conducting a mission in Nelson.

Mr H. Wilsone, part proprietor of the Cambridge Independent, was a visitor to Masterton yesterday.

It is understood that the ViceRegal party will spend their holidays at "Longwood," Featherston.

Mr T. Y. Seddon, M.P., has received advice that he passed m the recent law examinations. A London cable, received last night, stated that the Duke and Duchess of Connaught had visited Las Pal mas. The Hon. J. Gavan Duffy, an exmember of the Victorian Parliament, and a former Minister, is at present touring New Zealand. Mr A. J. Newman, of the Thames School of Mines, has been appointed instructor in engineering at the Napier Technical College.

Mr J. G. Harkness, secretary of the National Dairy Association, will be leaving Wellington shortly for London, via Cape Horn. He will return to -New Zealand in April next.

Mr Justice Denniston is a passenger by the Omrah, which has arrived at Fremantle. He has been on a visit to the Old Land for the past three months.

Mr A. Macintosh, New Zealand Superintendent of Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., accompanied by Mr W. Bennett, manager of the firm's Wellington Branch, was on a visit to Masterton yesterday. They returned to Wellington by the afternoon train.

The many friends of Mr G. E. Allen, the well-known Romney Marsh breeder of Clareville, will regret to hear that he has been compelled to enter a hospital at Masterton for medical treatment.

Sir F. H. May, Colonial Secretary of Hongkong, has been appointed Governor of Fiji and High Commissioner of the Western Pacific, in place of Sir Everard im Thurn, who has resigned on account of ill-health.-

Sir Joseph Ward is expected, to return to Wellington from Rotorua on Thursday next. He will leave on Friday "for the Bluff, in order to be present at "the regatta on New Year's Day. ■'■''

Mr.W. M. Hughes, Federal Attor-ney-General and Acting-Prime Minis-1 ter for the Commonwealth, in a letter to) a Wellington friend, promises to pay a short, visit to New Zealand in January next, if relief from official duties for a week or two can be j arranged by his Cabinet colleagues.

The death occurred at Dunedin on Wednesday, of Mi- Hugh Cameron, of the "Okar" estate, Mangapakeha. The deceased, who was a son of Mrs A. Cameron,,of Kaiwarra. was a single man, and forty-five years of age- He had been ailing for some-time, and went south recently to endeavour to recuperate. His death occurred in a private hospital. The body of the dec-eased, who was well-known., in Masterton, will be interred at Wellington.

A Pi-ess Association message from Gore announces the death of Mrs Coutts, wife of Mr Lewis Coutts, an early pioneer of tho district, 'aged 70. Deceased was a resident of Gore for nearly 30 years, and prior to that had resided in the Courtenay district, Canterbury. She leaves a husband, one son,- and seven daughters, six of whom are married.

Dr. J. .M. Bell, Director of the New Zealand Geological Survey, and Mr Colin Fraser, Mining Geologist to the Government, have, resigned from the service, and will leave New Zealand on March 12th. They intend to go to England and subsequently to Canada.
