SHEARING SHED HANDS.

The Arbitration Court still maintains that it li.s no power to make shed hands parties to the Otago shearing dispute. An amendment of the Act was passed last session, ostensibly with the object of permitting the /Court to waive its previous objection. Judge Sim maintains that this amendment only affects cases which are before the Court, and does not touch the case which is under review. Whatever may have been the object of the Legislature, it is clear that the Court has no jurisdiction to give an award in a case which is not properly before it. It is obvious, therefore, that the shed hands of. Otago cannot be made parties to the shearing dispute.
