CHRISTMAS DISPLAYS.
SANTA GLAUS AT J. GRAHAM & CO.'S. "Christmas comes but once a year," and possibly pater-familias is just as well pleased that such is the case, as it is the season when the children's raid on his pocket is madei with assured success. Mostly, also, it is a season for holidays and uicnics, when friends meet and look forward to a time of real enjoyment, business worries and household cares being cast to the winds, and mind and body alike participating in the holiday relaxaion. This year, as usual, Messrs J. Graham and Co., have laid themselves out to specially cater for the Xmas trade. In their grocery department they have all the condiments that go to make up the world famed Xmas plum-pudding, all varieties of desert fruits, dried fruits', for culinary and table use. Then, there are mild-cured hams and bacon,,tinned meats, and delicacies that spare the housekeeper the laborious work of cooking, tinned biscuits from the best known makers, and jams nd, jellies of the finest brands. Choice boxes of confectionery; well suited for • presents, and sugar goods of all descriptions, coffee, liquid and dry, and teas of delicate aroma, syrups, liqueurs, and pleasant summer drinks. All these will tend to make the holiday time pass very pleasantly, and free from care. For the children, Santa Claus has provided all that the hearts of the youngsters can desire —dolls, mechanical toys, puzzles, teddy-bears, and the thousand and one toys that the children delight in. This is the joyous season of the year, when pater and mater pay and look pleasant, and parents and children look happy and con-, tented. In another department of Graham's varied dispay are choice sumer fabrics for girl's dresses, •. and boy's suits, cool and graceful hats, drapery and millinery are in profusion to suit the tastes of all buyers. The annexe devoted to crockery and glassware is full of useful and ornamental articles of artistic merit, well suited for presents. Taken altogether this firm has amply sustained its reputafor catering for the Xmas trade in an enterprising manner. AT L. J. HOOPER AND CO.'S. Great preparations have been made at Messrs L. J. Hooper and Co.'s drapery and millinery establishment, Queen Street, for the Christmas and New Year trade. All the latest fashions are displayed in the showrooms, everything being of the newest designs. It impossible to do justice to the exhibition in a paragraph. The display must be seen to be realised. The new trimmed millinery, light and fantastic, new costumes ranging from severe simplicity to profusions of lace and embroideries, dust coats, blouses, skirts, ready-to-wear hats and .sunshades to match, costumes, neckwear, gloves, and hosiery. For gentlemen, everything requisite in mercery and clothing, hats in every variety, and gloves, make up a good display.
