STRUCK BY LIGHTNING.

GORE, Last Night

At Papanui on Saturday, lightning struck three large pines in a plantation on the Brooksdale estate, splitting the trees from top to bottom. Five ewes, which were sheltering under the largest tree, were killed by the lightning. Another, which was ten feet away, was also killed. At Tuturau, on Saturday, a girl named Hannah and a youth named Aitken were struck by lightning while taking shelter in a birn. The former has recovered, but the latter is still suffering from the effects of the shock.
