The Masterton schools break up for the Christmas vacation to-day.
A youthful cyclist collided with a little" girl in Queen Street, Masterton, last evening, with the result that both received a severe shaking. A writ claiming £2OOO damages has been issued by an Eketahuna settler against a resident of Christchurcli, in connection with a land transaction.
An Auckland telegram says:—George William Williams, photographer, aged about 60' years, was found dead in bed this morning by his daughter. The cause of death is unknown. A post mortem examination will be hold.'
A meeting of Directors of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company was held in - Masterton yesterday, when a deal of business of an important private character was transacted.
One settler in the Masterton district is reported to have sold his fat lambs for as high a price as 13s 4d. Another has sold at 13s. The price which is being offered generally is, however, 12s 6d.
The strawberry season in Auckland is now approaching its height, and from present indications the season should prove a longer and better one than last year.' Between 10,000 and 12,000 boxes are now being received daily by the Waimate Fruitgrowers' Association.
The Carterton News says that Mr C. A. Pownall has lodged an appeal in the case A. R. Wallis (Mr Maunsell) v. R. W. Henderson (Mr Pownall), claim,for £27 for breach of., contract. At last court day ment was given for the plaintiff for £22 and costs. Mr Pownall appeals against this decision.

In the Magistrate's Court at Carterton, yesterday, before Mr L. G. Reid, S.M., Frank Newman Dixon was committed for trial at the nextsitting of the Supreme Court in Masterton on a charge of shooting a bull, the property of George Turley, of the Taratahi. .'Bail,* "which was forthcoming, was allowed in accused £SO and two sureties of £SO each.
