THE PRICE OF WETHERS.
What should he the ruling price for wether sheep to-day? That is the question which Companies can hest answer. The London price for Wellington mutton, according to the latest cahle, is 3-Jd per lb. Allowing lj-d per lb for shipment, which is the net cost, the value of mutton at this end is 2-Jd per lb. A 601b sheep would thus realise lis 3d. Add to this Is for the wool when off the shears, Is 9d for the skin, and Is for the fat, the exact value of the sheep at the farm works out at 15s. From this must be made an allowance for lifting, drafting, and rejects. It will thus be seen that at ruling prices 14s, or even less, would be a reasonable sum for a farmer to expect. If he gets a bigger price than this, so much the better for himself. But, it is fair to ask, how can it be done?
