WAIRARAPA AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB.
OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE SEASON. The swimming season was officially opened on the Park Lake last evening. A large attendance of patrons of the Club were prescn.t, demonstrating that a considerable amount of interest is being taken in these •evening competitions. The first event, a 66 yards liandibrought ont^twelve competitors. 'This event was swam off in two heats. The first heat resulted:— E. V. Ellis lOsecs., 1; H. Fraser Usees. "'2; L. C. Dudson 7sees, 3. Time, 54 3-ssec. Second heat— E. Wickens lOsec., 1; M. Iggulden 4sec., 2; J. "WaterhouSe 7sec., 3. Time, 53 1-5 sec. The final resulted—H. .Fraser - 1, E. Wickens 2, E. Y. Ellis 3. The 100 Yards Handicap brought out seven competitors, and resulted as follows, after an excellent race:—* ,T. Winchester 6sec., 1; L. Carmine scr., 2. Time, Imin. 31sec. It is pleasing to note that several swimmers in the events journeyed - all the way from Carterton to compete, and several others are in active training for the forthcoming carnival on Anniversary Day. The Masterton Municipal Band was in attendance at the Park Oval, and greatly enlivened the proceedings with several excellent selections.
