FAIVMLY SEED CAEE.-Inered-lents: Quarter pound' flour, three ounces sugar, three ounces butter {.three eggs, one teaspoonful baking | powder, two ounces caraway seeds Rub the butter into the flour and add the carraway seeds, and add to the; flour, stirring in the baking powder at the last. Line the cake tin with greased paper, pour in the ' mixture and bake for three quarters of an hour in a Quick oven. I For a GOOD FAMILY CAKE:Mix one teaspoonful of baking powder with one pound of flour, then add six 'ounces -of currents, six ounces of stoned raisins and one ounce of chopped peel. Cream two ounces of lard and two ounces of butter with six ounces of castor sugar, beat the yokes of three eggs and add to the butter and sugar, then stir in the dry ingredients, and beat well, andat last stir in the whites of the eggs beaten to a stiff froth. Put into a greased tin and bake for one hour and a half or two hours. A good family tea to serve at all times is the New Crescent Blend at 2s per lb, and which can he obtained from practically every grocer in." the district. Mr M. Laracy, General Organising secretary of the N.Z. Shearers' and Wool-shed Employees' Association, states that Mr Abbott nas resigned the position of secretary to the Wellington branch ' of the Shearers' Union, but has accepted, and been appointed, to the position of organiser to travel in the Wellington district. The organisers had all reported good progress up to the presr ent, and they expected to increase the membership considerably. Mr who has been in town attending the meeting, would return to-day to continue the work organising in the Poverty Bay district. Mr B. Hawkins, the Maori or- , ganiser, will proceed to Hawke's Bay at the end of the week. Mr Laracy anticipates that before the end of the shearing season the membership. , <>f the Federation in New Zealand will have been increased by some two thousand, including a large percentage of natives. The curtailment of expenses at the extraordinary conference has, according to Mr Laracy, met with the general approval of members throughout the Dominv* ion.
