THE DAIRY FACTORY LIST.
ADDITIONAL REGISTRATIONS.
Since the last official list of dairy factories was issued by the Agricultural Department, applications for the registration of five creameries (butter lactones), 23 cheese factories, 15 private dairies, and three packinghouses have been received After careful inspection by officers of the Dairy-produce Division, these have been registered and certificates issued in all casesjyhere the require-ments-of the Dairy Industry Act had been complied with. As regards the cheese and butter factories, first-class buildings in almost every case have been erected according to the plans approved by the Dairy-produce Division. The settlers are apparently realising the benefits to be derived from following the advice of the Department in the erection of suitable buildings and the installation of up-to-date plants. This, together with the selection of suitable sites, has the effect of preventing the location of factories in places where they would be likely to become insanitary, and expensive to maintain. The structures in all cases are of a permanent nature, being built with carried up several feet from the ground level. They are also provided with concrete floors, and proper drainage to a convenient outlet.
It was found necessary in some cases t>> insist on certain additions and alterations before the certificates could be issued, but these having been complied with, the premises were registered in due course. Several additional applications have been made, and these will be atte to immediately.
