QUEENSLAND BEEF TROUBLE.
The trouble being experienced in Queensland as a result of the presence of what are known as "wormnests" in beef appears to be so great as to seriously affect the export trade of that country. These sorcalled" vvorni-'nests are fairly large masses of degenerated material, containing worms coiled up, located in the muscles of the lower part of the fore-quarter, usually alongside the breast-bone. The worms are of the variety known as Spiroptera. Fortunately this trouble is not present in New Zealand, and the Government is fully alive to the 'necessity for protecting our stock from it. Under the present quarantine regulations cattle from Queensland are absolutely prohibited from entering into New Zealand.
