THE ICELAND PROPOSAL.

LONDON, December 1. The Pacific Cable Board's amended estimates to Mau-h', 1911 show receipts £138,000, and expenditure £189,546. In the following year the receipts are estimated at £140,000, and the expenditure £188,609. Sir Gecrge Reid, in an interview, stated tl ere hadfceen forwarded to the Australian G&venmeht information regarding the Iceland cable which experts suggest is worthy of the fullest immediate investigations. The Times says the financial estimate is thoroughly reliable, lc hopes the Imperial Government will reconsider its refusal to promote a State-owned Atlantic cabh\ Copenhagen messages state that the scheme is much commented on, because Denmark would thereby secure communication with Greenland. The Canadian Government has entered into negotiations with the Great Northern Telegraph Company, whose lines would be used. It is believed the scheme has gcod prospect?, I.ut final arrangements have yet to be made between the Canadian and British Governments, and the Great Northern lelegraph Company.
