OBITUARY.

MRS CATHERINE M'KENZIE.

The many friends in Masterton of Messrs William, Alexander and Thomas McKenzie will regret to hear of the death of their mother, Mrs Catherine McKenzie, relict of the late Mr Kenneth McKenzie, which occurred at Stoney Creek on Sunday. The deceased lady, who was greatly respected and esteemed by all who knew her. was born at Roxburgh, Scotland, in 1834, and with, her husband and five children came to New Zealand in 3859. In the year 1874 the family settled at Stoney Creek, on bush sections which had been taken by her brother, Mr Wm. Waugb, and which the late Mr Kenneth McKenzie purchased from him. Mr McKenzie predeceased his wife two yearsi ago. Tha late Mrs McKenzie leaves a family of sixteen to mourn their loss, nine sons and seven daughters. The sons are —John, of Paengaroa, Hay of Plenty; James, of Greenhaugh; Alex., of Featnerston; William, of Manaia, Masterton; Kenneth, of Levin; Thomas, of Masterton; juachlan, of Hokowhitu; Roderick, of Milson's Line; and Robert W. S., of 'Greehhaugh. The daughters areMrs L. Mcintosh, of Makarana, Gisborne; Mrs K. Praser, Otakeho, Taranaki; Mrs C. Bannister, Upper Plain, Masterton; Mrs J. Hastings, Aokautere; Mrs D. Speedy, Kelvin Grove; and the Misses E. H. and J. McKenzie, of Greenhaugh. The late Mrs McKenzie leaves four brothers and a sister, the brothers being Mr W. Waugh, ;iof Stoney Creek, and three others at Kimbokon, John, James, and Thomas Waugh, the sister still' residing in Scotland. About nine years ago the deceased lady suffered a paralytic'stroke, and but for her splendid constitution it would have assuredly have proved fatal. Although on a number of occasions since then she has had very bad turns, she has recovered in a marvellous manner. In addition to the numerous family of sons and daughters, there are thirty-two grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
