A COWARDLY ATTACK. (Received November 28, 8.5 a.m.) LONDON, November 27. The Duke of Marlborough, addressing a meeting, said that when ho interviewed Mr Lloyd-George three years ago lie did not suspect he would become a target for insolent and unsavoury invective. Then he thought Mr Lloyd-George a gentleman, but he seemeu to have reverted to his type and become himself. 'What did tile poor think of their sham poor man with £SOO a year stirring i:p class hatred? He reminded them of Mr Lloyd-George's cowardly attack on the Lords through their ladies, an insult which affected one of his colleagues in the Cabinet.

(Received Last Night, 9.30 o'clock.) LONDON, November 28. The Hon. D. Lloyd-George is conducting a series of meetings in Scotland, which re-call the late Mr Gladstone's campaign. There were 20,000 applicants for seats at his meeting in the King's Theatre, Edinburgh. A sum of £2OO was returned to disappointed applicants. Mr oyd-George addressed many meetings at railway stations, and in the open air, during a thirty-four miles motoring journey from Peebles to Selkirk. There were several inches of snow on the ground.
LATE ITEMS.
(Received Last Night, 9.30 o'clock.) LONDON, November 28. A feature of the elections will be the increase in unopposed returns, and the diminution of three-cornered contests. The Liberals have not provided candidates for sixty-four seats, chiefly in the Home Counties The Unionists have not found candidates for thirty-six seats. Five hundred and thirty-eight but of 567 English, Welsh, and Scotch Commoners are seeking re-election. Unionist working men are standing for Macclesfield, Stockport, Norwich, Hyde, Attercliffe, Ratcliffe, and Tarn worth. The Standard's fund to assist these candidates has reached- £6943.
