ASSAULTS A WARDER IN CO URL

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.}. AUCKLAND, Last Night. A young Australian named r'rank Logan, who id serving a term of four years for. breaking and entering, and theft, in ti:e Auckland gaol, was charged in the Police Court this morning with assaulting the Chief Vv arder by striking the latter on the mouih and threatening to "do for him" as soon aa he was liberated. Thp prisoner admitted, the assault* but asserted that the waider had singled him out for specially harsh treatment. The Magistrate informed f-e prisoner that nothing that bad happened, could have justified the assault. 'lhe , prkoner remarked: "Very well; 111 take the law into my own, hands." Logan was sentenced to-fourteen days on bread and water, and to tor • feit marks equivalent to six months remission of his sentence. When leaving the dock, Logan, ru'shed at the Unef Warder, and attempted to grip him by the throat.. He was speedily seized by the police and other warders, replaced in the dock, and handcuffed. Be was ssntenced for the latter assault to close confinement in irons for one noith, and to forfeit marks equivalent to another six months' remission of his sentence.
