CBy Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. Mr Joseph Brown was elected chairman of the County Council today. The next shipment of butter from New Plymouth for the Home market will he 14,000 boxes. Petroleum matters are still promising. The No. 2 well, which lias been flowing oil 011 its own accord since January last at the rate of 100 barrels (equal to 4000 gallons) a week, is still flowing, and more strongly than ever, while the No. 3 bore is still flowing also, although no work lias been done there for weeks. Visitors from Australia and all parts of the Dominion are gratified and surprised at the wealth of the developments, which are eye-openers. A complaint has been made here that though Taranaki shares continue to be quoted at 7s to 7s 9d on the outside stock exchanges, enquiries from here fail to secure any at under 10s 6d or sixpence higher, and the price at which transactions are made locally is from 10s to lis. The opinion is expresed that some influence is being brought to bear, which is unfavourable for the oil industry.
