DEFEAT OF KOOBEVELTISM. I _—• (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Received Friday, 8.45 a.m. NEW YORK, November 10. Mr Judson-Harmon has been elceted Governor of Ohio. He wil 1 become the Democratic candidate for the Presidency. The New York press recognises the defeat of Kooseveltism. The position is serious for Mr Roosevelt, who is now unlikely ever to be asked to again contest the presidency. The Congressional elections are over. The House of Representatives in the sixty-second Congress of the United States will be composed as follows:—Democrats 217, Republicans 172, Socialist 1. The state of parties after the previous election was: Republicans 217, Democrats 174. The elections have resulted in the greatest political i change —so far as the state of parties ;is concerned known for many years. | Mr John *A. Dix, the Democratic candidate has been elected to the Governorship of New York by a majority of fifty thousand votes.

Mr Roosevelt rested at home throughout the day, and ordered that no election news be sent to him.

The Speaker, Mr Joseph Cannon, has been re-elected.

The VVomen'a Suffrage candidates had wins in Washington State. The prohibitionists claim many victories.
