YESTERDAY'S CABLES.
Victoria defeated New South Wales at bowls by 106 to 70. The Nationalists declare that they will defeat Sir Wilfrid Laurier, the Prime Minister, in his own constituency at next election. It is alleged that Sir Wilfrid rarely visits his constituents. In the hoilermakers' ballot 15,563 voted for rejection of the boilermakers' agreement and 5850 against its rejection,out of a vot ing strength of fifty thousand. In the Federal House of Representatives, the Postal Bill has been read a second time, by thirty-one votes to four. The Senate has passed .the Oil Bounty Hill through all its stages without material amendment. "Earl" Pinder, a hold-up desperado and alieged murderer, has been arrested in San Francisco, en route for Australia. Pinder shot a woman at Cleveland, Ohio, when he was furious at the escape of. a cardriver whom he had shot.
